  Who We Are

Our Mission is both to nurture the "roots and fruits of discipleship" in our church.

We nurture our "roots" by inviting congregation members to prayerfully consider the blessings of resources, gifts and abilities God has given each one of us. We prepare ourselves for mission outreach through study and reflection, educational opportunities and fellowship so that the "fruits" of faith are more joyous, energized and faithful.

With Jesus Christ as our model, we seek to nurture the "fruits" of discipleship as we serve our brothers and sisters in our community and the world through Local Outreach Opportunities, Global Opportunities, and Mission Trips.

What We Do

Our church does wonderful mission work in our community, region, and in the world, embodying God's grace by helping those less fortunate than us. Whether it be building houses for Habitat or working with border missions in Mexico, we do a good job of good work. It is increasingly clear, however, that good work is not enough--that what we say is as important as what we do. We can make our voices heard, whether it is calling to ask our representatives to ban torture, writing letters in support of funding for social programs, or walking the Mall in support of AIDS research. This is the ministry of advocacy, of speaking for the powerless, and it is something the Mission Team at First Presbyterian want to do more of in the future.

FPC also serves as a host site for "English As a Second Language Immigrant Ministries" (ELSIM). In the fall and winter semesters, we open our doors twice a week for classes.  Volunteers from the congregation serve as teachers, greeters and registrars.

  Who We Support

PCUSA has 6 border missions on the Mexican border. The mission team contributes to the support of 2 of them. First, we support Rev. Mark Adams and his wife Miriam in Frontera de Christo in Aqua Prieta on the Arizona border. We also support Rev. Andre Garcia and his wife Gloria in Puentas de Cristo in Reynosa on the Texas border. We usually send a group of members for a week of "immersion" every 2 years to Frontera de Christo.

FPC also helps support the Nazareth Hospital Aids Team in Nairobi, Kenya. This team consists of about 30 young professionals: doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, counselors and community health educators. The team is made up of Kenyans dedicated to the Aids Crisis in their country.
