Hello, First Presbyterian Church,
“Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable; it keeps no record of wrongs; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
From January 26 to March 2, we’ll be focusing on Saint Paul’s first letter to the early Christian church at Corinth. 1st Corinthians is a well-known and much-beloved letter. Perhaps you have heard its meditations on love read at a friend’s wedding (or your own). Maybe you resonate with the practical advice on dealing with conflict and disagreements that the letter offers. Or maybe you just need the reminder that even the earliest Christians struggled to get along.
There are lots of connections between the ancient world and our own. I look forward to exploring those similarities and departures together in worship and during our Wednesday morning Bible study at 8:00 am on Zoom (let me know if you need the Zoom link). We’ll call this series “Start with Love.” I think that’s a good motto for any time of year, but especially for a new year. I hope that I’ll see you in church.
Peace,
Pastor Billy
